Among the most durable and reliable cylinder mowers now available in the UK, the Protea Heavy Duty “HD” mowers, in 610mm, 760mm and 914mm widths, are suitable for a very wide range of fine turf applications.
Standard features include an 8-blade precision ground cutting cylinder, twin rear rollers with a movable roller scraper, a roll-over steel grass box and reliable and fuel-efficient 8.4hp Honda GX270 engines.
Every component has been proven in the harsh conditions of their South African home market, giving these rugged machines an enviable reputation for reliability. Industrial-grade bearings, heavy-gauge steel chassis, heavy-duty transmission components and cable-free drive controls contribute to long life. Simple operator controls are combined with ideal weight and balance, making even the 914mm version easy to handle.
The open frame design of the "HD" model allows for easy cleaning and maintenance. As with all Protea mowers, the 'HD' comes with an adjustable rear roller to ensure a perfectly straight cut for the life of the machine. Precise cutting height adjusters allow for very precise adjustments of up to 5mm with the standard lower blade and even lower with the razor blade. Extremely durable rubberized rear rollers provide additional grip on slopes and are resistant to damage on hard surfaces.
A lot of work has gone into producing a mower that, despite its large size, is easy and smooth to manoeuvre. Protea designed the excess weight to reduce the pressure on the ground, and therefore soil compaction.
The controls are not tiring to use, and the height-adjustable rear roller ensures that the cut will be maintained throughout the life of the machine (so unlike all other mowers, the "set" can never develop).
